Volcanoes!
We have had an adventurous week here at Putney Heath and have had so much fun engaging in some very exciting activities!
We experienced some very strong winds at the very start of the week, which meant our normal forest routine was not possible. We decided to split into two groups and one group stayed inside the clubhouse and engaged in some fantastic activities. The other (older) group of children had an exciting trip to the Natural History Museum.
At the museum, the children were very excited to explore the volcano exhibition. They were amazed by the lava pictures and animations and enjoyed listening to the educators as they read the information boards. There were a variety of different interactive activities and the children enjoyed exploring cause and effect.
Later in the week, the children had the opportunity to make their own volcanoes! The children used clay to create the base and main body of their volcano, moulding it around a hollow plastic tube. After they were happy with the structure, they poured baking powder and vinegar into the tube. Then we waited for the magic to happen!! The children watched in awe as the lava bubbled and erupted out of their volcanoes!
The children put their doctor hats on towards the end of the week, to look after our furry friends. A vet surgery was set up in the forest and the children had to work together to diagnose the patients and figure out the best treatment for them. The children showed great teamwork and brilliant writing skills when writing up the patient's notes.
We have had a brilliant week here, and we cannot wait for more adventures next week :)
