Happy half-term to all our sessional children and their families. We have missed them dearly in the forest. The little ones and educators are eager for their return next week. With our sessional friends away, we welcomed some new and familiar faces this week. The holiday campers came ready to go and embraced the mild but wet conditions in the forest.
With spooky season upon us, the little ones read lots of stories about Halloween, including one in particular- Winnie the Witch. With Winnie in mind, the children created a magical paste, gathered strips of newspaper and voila…a cauldron was constructed! The Little Forest Folk-ers enjoyed making the cauldron so much that they have requested to paint in black for potions and spells next week.
The creative energy was flowing this week and carried on into Tuesday. The children requested to make volcanoes which like spells and potions, required lots of measuring. They carefully counted the correct amount of baking soda to vinegar ratio, and then combined the ingredients to watch the eruption.
It has been such an enriching experience for the children to have exposure to different cultural events. With Diwali quickly approaching, one of our educators invited the children to design their own rangoli patterns. The children used things from their natural environment, such as leaves and flower petals.
To close out the week, the little ones really honed their focus on their emotional literacy. With the use of colours and very cute pictures of an educator’s cat, they discussed how they feel. Red was used to represent anger and fear. Yellow was used to show silly or excited feelings. Green represented happiness or a sense of calm, while blue was for sadness and tiredness. The Little Forest Folk-ers and educators used the zones of regulation to talk about their real-life experiences!
What a wonderful week in the forest, we hope you all have lovely weekend and look forward to more adventures next week!
