Putney Heath - Small Worlds

Small Worlds

We ended last week with some glorious rain which you know is very popular here at Putney Heath and the children embarked on an adventure around our beautiful forest. Along the adventure the children came across a big grizzly bear and they had to run away quickly before it ate them. Luckily the children escaped and made it back to camp where they were welcomed by Selina who was making some seed bombs. The children really enjoyed making these and cannot wait to throw them on the ground once they are dry.

We began the new week with some beautiful sunshine which made our forest look even more beautiful. As the rays of sun hit the trees, we spotted a bird’s nest above our camp which was the home to some European Jay birds. Unfortunately, we saw a crow knock out one of the eggs from the nest and it fell on our camp floor. The children were really interested in this, and they all gathered round to have a look at the egg. The children then discussed between themselves how they could make the mummy bird happy again. They decided that finding some wiggly worms for the mummy bird would make her smile again!

Further into the week we introduced some new small world toys; tigers, cheetahs and leopards, and the children absolutely loved these! They all got straight to work building their very own small worlds using sticks, logs and the animals to go inside. The children also enjoyed becoming the animals too, growling and snarling as they ran around the forest.

The small world fun continued further into the week with more homes and habitats being built for the new animals we have in the forest. The animals were also accompanied by some gnomes and the children enjoyed putting these together to make a small world village.

Wow! What a fantastic, sun filled week we’ve had. We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and we cannot wait to have more adventures next week!
