Putney Heath - Our Little Eco-warriors!

Brrr!! This week started off feeling like Winter but warmed up with lots of rain, which was the perfect opportunity to go on a puddle hunt. The little ones searched Putney Heath, trying to locate the biggest puddle they could jump in. After walking for what felt like ages, they found the most ginormous puddle. The puddle was the best place for our Little Forest Folk-ers to show off their jumping skills and see who could make the biggest splash.

Inspired by a book all about the ABC’s of looking after our precious Earth, our little eco-warriors grabbed their litter pickers and headed out on a walk. They took care and concern for their environment and discussed different ways to look after the planet. Some children suggested finding a bin while walking and others mentioned that they can keep the rubbish in their pockets until they made it home. All suggestions were welcomed!

The children have such a fascination with animals, which was perfect for this week's phonics activity. Our Little Forest Folk-ers took a look at each of their names, and sounded them out. Then, they sorted through animal stickers and stuck the animal with the matching sound on their name!

The children also did a lovely activity where they decorated affirmations and practiced saying them out loud in a mirror. They then discussed what the different words mean.

Firefighters are very popular with the children and this week they all pretended to be one. The children combined red, orange and yellow paint to make flames. They climbed slacklines that looked like ladders to rescue. And they even had their very own call centre to answer any emergencies. The little ones loved helping each other and the sounds of sirens could be heard all week in the forest.

It has been a beautiful week here at Putney Heath. Our little adventurers have braved the ever changing temperatures and roll with whatever comes their way. All of us at Putney Heath are looking forward to a relaxing weekend and can’t wait to see you next week!
