Putney Heath - Money, Money, Money!

This week, our theme has been Money, and our adventurers have been busy practicing their counting skills, learning about different currencies, and exploring how money is used in the world around us!

Our forest transformed into a bustling marketplace filled with exciting shopping opportunities. A musical instrument shop was set up where children could "purchase" instruments and create rhythmic beats for interpretive dance performances. Meanwhile, our forest café was in full swing, offering lemonade, milkshakes, pizza slices, and fresh fruit and veg—all at stellar prices! The children took turns being customers and shopkeepers, using a cash register to exchange money and even writing receipts for their purchases.

We also delved into banks and credit cards, discussing how they work and designing our very own contactless payment cards. This was a great opportunity for our adventurers to practice recognising their initials and writing numbers before using their cards in our forest shops.

Our money explorations continued with a global journey through currencies. The children discovered different types of money, including the Euro, Yen, Baht, Krone, Pound, and Dollar, trying to match each one to its respective country. Inspired by this, they took on the exciting challenge of creating their own unique currency! Designing their own coins and banknotes, they even added their own faces to their special money!

To top it all off, we’ve done some impressive counting this week, focusing on our 5 and 10 times tables, grouping these numbers together, as shown on bank notes.

It's been a fantastic week of learning through play, and we can’t wait for more adventures ahead.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
