As Christmas draws near, our forest has been alive with festive spirit and creativity. Despite the week kicking off with gusty winds from a passing storm, we embraced the weather and ventured into the meadow, setting the tone for a wonderfully busy week.
We began with Christmas crafts, using festive colours and a touch of imagination to finger-paint our very own Christmas cards. These featured traditional Christmas dinner favourites like carrots, peas, sprouts, cranberry sauce, and even a turkey! The children’s creativity and enthusiasm truly shone through.
Next, our adventurers turned their hands to miniature wreath-making. Starting with bauble bases, they carefully added pine sprigs, cinnamon sticks, and little plastic cherries. With needles in hand, they practiced threading and sewing skills, combining all the materials to craft stunning wreaths to hang on our trees or take home to treasure.
A lively round of pass the parcel added some extra cheer. Using recycled paper for wrapping, the children practiced their wrapping skills before taking off each layer to reveal a delightful Christmas book to share and enjoy together.
We also explored figurine-making, molding roasted oranges, pine, and clay into beautiful and imaginative creations. The children loved experimenting with the textures and scents as they crafted their special take-home figurines.
For our wild cooking activity, we made use of older bananas to create scrumptious no-cook gingerbread bites. With great care and precision, the children measured and mixed their ingredients, resulting in deliciously sweet treats to enjoy after all their hard work.
The forest is truly brimming with festive excitement, and we look forward to continuing this magical journey into the holiday season.
