Putney Heath - Happy Mother's Day!

What a fantastic week we’ve had in the forest! Our Little Forest Folk-ers have been busy investigating shapes, celebrating Mother’s Day, and making the most of the glorious spring sunshine. With so much hands-on learning and adventure, there has been no shortage of excitement!

This week, our curious learners have been diving into the world of shapes! From identifying and naming different shapes to spotting them in the forest, the children have been on a mission to discover how shapes make up the world around us. One of the highlights was using 3D shapes to build their own structures. Towers, houses, and even castles emerged as the children experimented with balancing cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres. As they built, they practiced naming each shape, discussing their sides, edges, and corners—developing their mathematical language while having so much fun!

We also played lots and lots of shape-sorting games, which had the children thinking critically about the differences between 2D and 3D shapes. Whether they were sorting objects found in nature or racing to find the correct shape hidden around camp, our little explorers loved these playful challenges!

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, the children have been busy creating special gifts to take home. They poured so much love and care into making beautiful cards, crafting clay trinkets, and using loose parts to create unique keepsakes. It was wonderful to see their creativity shine as they made something truly special for their loved ones. Throughout the week, we also shared heartwarming stories about mothers and their babies. The children loved discussing what they enjoy doing with their mums, from baking and playing to cuddling and reading bedtime stories. These conversations were filled with warmth, joy, and a deep appreciation for the love that surrounds them.

The glorious spring weather has been a real treat this week! With the sun shining and the days feeling warmer, we’ve made the most of it with plenty of adventure walks. One of our favourite spots this week was the cricket pitch, where the children had space to run, roll, and soak up the sunshine. They were racing through the open field, lying in the grass watching the clouds, or simply enjoying the fresh spring air!

With so much learning, creativity, and fun, it has been another magical week in the forest. We can’t wait to see what next week brings as we continue to explore, discover, and embrace the changing seasons! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend filled with sunshine, laughter, and special moments with loved ones.
