Putney Heath - Feathers, Bugs and Brilliance

Our little Forest Folkers were lucky enough to finish off another fantastic week with making their own bug hotels. The children showcased their fantastic fine motor skills by carefully winding different coloured yarn around empty cans. The results were amazing, and our little adventurers are so excited to find some bugs and mini-beasts who want to check in to their hotels!

This wonderfully wet weather meant that the children began the new week hunting for more snails along the paths on our way to the forest. We love snails here at Putney Heath and the children take such good care of them, building them homes, giving them food and carefully placing them back into the forest at the end of the day.

Feather collecting has been a popular activity for the children here at Putney Heath over the past few months and we managed to collect a whole bag full! This week we decided to put them to good use for one amazing activity. The children had the opportunity to make their own paintbrushes, using string to secure a feather onto the end of a stick, which again showcased our Forest Folkers fantastic fine motor skills. And of course, we needed some paint to accompany the brushes, so the children made their own! We used mud, water and different food colourings and mixed them all together to create some beautiful water colours. The children enjoyed using their brushes and paint to paint some beautiful bird templates and to create their own wonderful paintings.

Throughout the week our little explorers have embarked on some brilliant bug hunts, and this wet weather has been perfect for finding worms, slugs, snails and even a few spiders! The children were so excited that they could maybe put these into their hotels, that they worked together to make a temporary home for them before they bring in the hotels.

Towards the end of the week Putney Heath had the football fever and thanks to a child who donated a football to our nursery, the children enjoyed a lovely game of football on the cricket pitch before heading into the forest. The football did not stop there, we had more games during the day and ended the day with another big game on the cricket pitch before heading back for dinner!

Wow, what an awesome week we’ve had here at Putney Heath! We wish you all a wonderful weekend, and maybe some of you will get the football fever this weekend!!
