Putney Heath - elder wood pencils

This week we have been getting super crafty in the forest. We have made superhero masks, bird feeders, and elder wood pencils.

It was fantastic to see the children showing their personalities through painting their superhero masks in their favourite colours and acting out role plays with their friends. Our Little Forest Folk-ers get so excited about bird spotting in the forest and we hope the birds in their gardens are as happy with the bird feeders as the children seemed to be when making them.

We then ended the week on a high with a tool work session to make pencils. It was brilliant to see the children becoming confident when using loppers for cutting, a peg for poking out the hole, and a peeler for whittling. After filling the hole with a stick of charcoal, the children experimented with writing and drawing with their pencils on the recycled paper we made together last week. It was great to continue our project and the children looked so proud of their achievements.

We have had some lovely new faces joining us throughout the week and we loved all the ideas the educators brought us. We have been playing new group games, throwing sycamore helicopter seeds in the air and watching them fall, and learning nursery rhymes in Spanish while playing our musical instruments.

We hope you all have had lovely weeks too and have a wonderful weekend!
