Eco Excitement…
Last week ended with some wonderful wild cooking, where the children enjoyed showing off their fine motor skills by chopping some vegetables for themselves to enjoy. We tried to save the vegetables for a super starter before our lunch, but I think our Little Forest Folk-ers couldn’t resist nibbling on them as soon as they cut them! Along with some beautiful singing and awesome counting, we had a brilliant end to the week.
Heading into the week saw some new adventures and on Monday whilst walking into the forest, we ventured down the ‘Snail path”. To the children’s delight we found lots and lots of snails of all shapes and sizes. The children enjoyed collecting the snails and making families of snails on big leaves they had also collected from the ground. We also began the week talking about the importance of being eco-friendly within the forest and how we are working towards our Eco-school’s accreditation, and the children enjoyed drawing some self-portraits onto fabric to create our new ‘Eco-committee’ bunting.
Further into the week the children decided to explore the snail path once again and the path did not fail to delight. We collected even more snails this time and the children were looking forward to making the snails some homes once they got to camp. The children also enjoyed taking part in a creative weighing experiment. An educator created a weighing device using a coat hanger and two tubs hanging from some string and the children placed sticks, leaves and stones in the tubs and had fun working out which side was the heaviest.
Towards the end of the week the children helped to fill out an environmental review which asked questions about how eco-friendly our nursery is. We worked out what we need to improve on or would like to add to our forest and we are all super excited to get working on these in the near future!!
We have had a great week here at Putney Heath and we wish you all a restful weekend :)
