Spider webs, Scarecrows and Strange happenings!

On Monday morning the children and educators returned to the forest to a mysterious and spooky surprise of enormous spider webs covering our environment! The children were quick to think… if there are enormous spider webs… then… there must be… ENORMOUS SPIDERS! They began investigating and exploring the forest looking for clues and answers. To do this they used magnifying glasses, binoculars, and chalkboards with chalk to note of any findings. The big spider had managed to cover our shed, reading areas and front fence, it was quite the puzzling mystery! There were also hints that it had moved around our forest leaving a webby trail in its tracks.

This haunting confusion continued when on Tuesday the children were greeted by empty scarecrow trousers and tops hanging in our gazebo next to a pile of hay. The children knew instantly they needed to help restore the scarecrows and began filling them up with the hay provided. Perhaps when filled and restored he would give us answers to all the oddities occurring in our spooky forest?! We managed to fix them both up and propped them comfortably in our front garden. We even managed to find a head and wellies for one of them, while the other is still missing these vital body parts but appears content! Unfortunately, they couldn’t provide us with any leads, but we still had the whole week ahead of us to discover more!

The next day was perhaps our most grotesque discovery of the week with one of our play tables being overrun by enormous blue, purple, and red wiggly worms! The slimy minibeasts had taken over our loose parts play! The children were intrigued, exploring them, and trying to work out where they had come from. They appeared to be rather friendly in the end, but these must have been the largest we have ever seen, some would say even as long as standard shop-bought spaghetti, but the jury is still out on that one! Another strange and odd occurrence for sure.

To the end of the week, we had a strange appearance of a large skeleton and a large spider web maze! The maze proved to be our biggest clue and the children finally tracked down the large and mischievous spider who had been causing the trouble all week (as pictured in the evidence photos attached)! The spider held all 8 hands up and pleaded guilty to his cheeky spooky crimes and the children had once again solved the case and rescued the day! Not a bad week’s work if you ask me! Until next time!
