What a fantastic week we’ve had in the forest. The children have been enjoying our walks to the forest every morning, visiting the duck family that wanders around the garden. Hannah brought some worms for the children to feed the ducks and they have absolutely loved spending time observing their funny movements and beautiful feathers.
We also had the amazing opportunity to see some birds of prey this week. Pete, the gardener, invited us to peek at two truly impressive owls and a falcon that were in the walled garden on Tuesday! The children were mesmerised with their incredible features. What a treat!
The mud kitchen has been ever so popular with magic potions being made and some fabulous baking too. One of our children’s favourite things to do recently is going to the water station to collect some water using buckets, ladles, and bowls. Some children like to take small amounts at a time and do this as many times as they need to. Others can carry heavy bowls filled with water, which most of the time, end up spilling on themselves despite the amazing balance and steadiness.
We have been talking to the children about the poorly tree that is on the stage and how sadly, after a visit from the tree surgeon, we found out that it is going to be felled. It was so touching to see our children genuinely concerned about the tree, asking lots of questions, and understanding that unfortunately, despite our efforts to save it (the stage was built to protect its roots), the tree has died. This has created a deep awareness on our children about the need to look after our forest and our planet.
Another super cool activity this week was making fairy doors to decorate our forest. The children had such a lovely time collecting materials in the gardens to decorate their doors. They’ve used clay, sticks, leaves, stones, and other special things to create a magical village where magic filled the air! And they were so beautiful!
We couldn't, of course, miss the 4th of May Star Wars Day celebrations! The forest had an incredible set up with a millennium falcon and a hoth rebel base. The children had such a good time making lightsabres and playing guardians of the galaxy!
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and see you next week!
