Fulham - Face Painting, Counting & Flowers

It has been another wonderful week in the forest. The weather has been, like football, a game of two-halves, with cloudy mornings replaced by sunny afternoons. This is soon to change as we approach much warmer days next week. Please remember to pack a full water bottle and sun hat in your little ones’ bags. We will re-apply sun cream to all children with permission but do ask all families to apply some before arriving at the forest.

This week we have been trying to encourage the children’s interest in numbers and counting. The inventive Donna created a fun apple-counting game involving placing small cotton bud heads (coloured red) into holes corresponding to the number on the tree. Our little mathematicians were so good at numbers one to five that we will have to make some more cards! On a large chipboard, we asked the children if they could paint or trace the numbers one to 10 that had been painted across the top. Adding some water to the paint, they also explored mixing colours and seeing the effect they could make, dripping and splashing with a brush.

It has been a colourful week in many other ways too. As some of you may have noticed, face painting has been a popular activity with our Little Forest Folk-ers. Ella and Libby brought their artistic talents to the forest, creating some brilliant butterflies, devastating dragons and unbelievable unicorns. Unfortunately, due to the hot weather many of them looked like they had spent the day in a coal mine!

Spending our time in such beautiful grounds has many perks, one of which is having the lovely Pete the gardener on hand to provide us with natural resources. On Tuesday we were given some flowers and plants that Karlenne helped the children use to make their very own biospheres. Cutting plastic milk bottles in half and attaching some coloured strips around the outside, the children then scooped some soil into it and arranged a choice of flowers and plants.

What an amazing week! Have a lovely weekend and see you all next week!
