Eid, travel and colourful shapes
We’ve had an amazing week in the forest! Sunny days filled with muddy hands, smiley faces and lots, lots of laughter! The children have been preparing to celebrate Eid. The children loved listening to the educators talking and reading books about what it means, and they have made the most beautiful pictures cutting half-moons and sticking them into the ‘night sky”.
On the robins side, the children have been interested in shapes so we’ve prepared something special for them to enjoy. Some cardboard, cellophane sheets and lolly sticks was all we needed. Our little explorers used the different sheets to see the forest in different colours. They pointed the cardboard to the ground and the shadows revealed yellow circles, red triangles and blue squares. They joined 2 different colours and discovered green and purple! Such a magical moment watching the children taking turns and experimenting mixing the colours against the sunshine! Reading and singing have been a great part of our days, where the children take the opportunity to have a break and relax.
On the magpies side, the children have been busy building airplanes, trains and ships to travel in stormy weather and bumpy roads! Using the loose parts to build their transports has always been a hit in our forest. Our Little Forest Folk-ers even took Jeni, our Operations Manager, for a ride on their boat this week! Some of the children have been digging holes in random places, and this week, one of the children took the initiative of carrying mud to fill in the holes, stomping with his feet to cover them. It is so inspiring to see our children care for nature and look after our forest!
Celebrating mental health awareness week in the forest, the educators have been encouraging the children to talk about their feelings and emotions. The educators were inspired by the ‘colour monster’ book and asked the children if they could show different emotions with their face and the children absolutely nailed it! How reassuring it is to see our children understand the importance of talking about their feelings!
Have a marvellous weekend everyone!
