Wowsers! What a scorcher this week! We adapted our set ups to inspire and encourage the children’s interest in the shadier spots of our forest wherever possible with paints and drawing, construction and balancing games.
The green team gathered seeds, grasses and leaves as they walked into the forest and experimented with textures by choosing to sprinkle and stick them to paintings they created.
The red team experimented in a similar way by using twigs and grasses as paintbrushes to decorate bark and pinecones they had collected from the forest floor.
Fishing rods have captured the red teams imaginations and they collected twigs to help make their own rod and bait. Pretending to board boats as they balanced their way along benches and beams, they clearly enjoyed role playing together.
Our green team have been using our bug book to research and compare the pictures to identify the forest creatures they captured in our bug pots. They have become more focused and adept at seeking out the nooks and crannies that would appeal to insects, lifting leaves and pushing aside stems to look deep inside shrubs.
Red team have explored mark making with pens to practice their grip as they draw and begin to mimic writing while our green team have engaged with number matching games and practiced writing some numbers.
It’s always so hard to convey the absolute magic that happens in the forest. Our kids throw themselves into characters and games with such commitment and wow us every day as they conquer their individual challenges and showcase fantastic concentration or bravery. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
