We are almost convinced that by some magic we have been transported to the tropical Amazon or some jungle far, far away with the weather this week. Even though we hid under the thick canopy of the forest, we could still feel the heat which made us very creative in finding ways to cool down.
We had water-based games and activities throughout the week. The educators have put a large tray where we could pump and splash water that we later used for our creations. We had some dam building, creating of a waterfall and even saw the return of mud pies! Painting was another activity this week, but instead of using paintbrushes the children decided to use their hands instead. Not only was this a lovely sensation on our palms, it was also a very interesting work of art once the paper was fully covered in handprints and an incredible array of colours. Water fights were very popular this week and the children particularly enjoyed splashing water on educators. The funniest part however, was trying to run away and hide from Asia and Georgia who had water bottles ready and squirted us whenever we weren’t looking.
Our favourite activity this week was visiting the allotments. The gardeners have prepared a really lovely treat for us that we were all part of. We first had to walk around the gardens and collect any pears and apples that were laying on the ground. With a lot of buckets and a sense of team-work we set off to pick as many fruit as we could find. This task was more exciting as there were many sprinklers set up so we had to be very quick to not get splashed. Most of us however loved running through the cold and refreshing water so that was an extra treat for us! Once the apples were collected, we brought those to the shed where we grinded the apples in a large and very noisy machine. All we had to do was throw apples in the machine and it threw a lovely smelling pulp that was then ready to be pressed. This was the most tricky task as it involved a lot of hard pushing and muscle work. With lots of pushing and encouragement from our friends, we quickly saw a delicious juice trickling down the sides of the apple press. We were rewarded with a very sweet and incredibly tasty juice that we all enjoyed after all that hard work we put into apple pressing.
We hope that you too have found some creative ways to keep cool this week and we wish you a lovely and less stormy weekend. See you all next week!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
