Chiswick - Storytelling

Our Week in the Forest...

Chiswick house and gardens has been thoroughly explored and enjoyed by our children this week in both rain and shine.

The week has been filled with storytelling by both children and the teachers. Although the children are huge fans of books, they have recently been showing a preference for made-up or retold stories. Together, we have retold the story of the Gruffalo, Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, Lord of the Rings (!) and yesterday we had a request for Harry Potter!
The children love filling in the gaps in the story from their memories or imaginations, and their early love of literature is certainly coming through.

We’ve also had a number of children sharing their experiences from home with the group, such as games they may have played over the weekend. One child taught the group how to play ‘duck, duck, goose’ which ended up turning into a hilarious chasing game. These games are a great way for the group to connect with one another, and we see both our youngest and our oldest children joining in with the fun.

Our lovely lake was still part frozen this week, and the children found sheets of ice that were so thick they were almost unbreakable, but after a lot of jumping and stomping, the children finally had the satisfaction of hearing the ice crack underfoot.
Due to the cold mornings and mild afternoons, we had some puddles which stayed frozen all day and some which melted in the sun into muddy pools. The trick was to recognise which was which before attempting to step in/on it!

We have said goodbye to some of our dear forest friends this week as they move on to a new country, to a new house, new nursery or school. It’s been sad to say farewell but we have enjoyed spending the week reminiscing on all the fun that’s been shared in the forest, and of course having lots of hugs.

Thank you for being a part of the LFF community in 2017 - we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Looking forward to seeing you in 2018 for another year of forest fun!
