We dedicated this week to welcoming fresh beginnings and hope. Creating a peace tree and making a collection for those suffering in Ukraine. Big, little, blue and yellow handprints adorned a big trunk to show our love.
Spring has sprung here at Chiswick and adventurers and educators alike have enjoyed the blissful tranquility this brings surrounded by our pretty gardens. We have optimised our opportunities to wander our forest to find new places to enjoy our adventure snacks. Situating ourselves in picnic land, chomping on some fruit and watching the wildlife. Inquisitive mallards and sneaky swans taking a peak at our Little Forest Folkers, our little ones peering back and searching for lost feathers.
Our children were adventurous at our indoor space too this week as they experimented with colours. Mixing rose and tulip flower petals, food colouring and paint to experiment in water play. Making curious looking colours and textures. Our children also practiced measuring and mixing as they sculpted Play-Doh from scratch. Pouring and sharing oil, flour, water and paint! The Play-Doh was a wonderful tool for imaginative play with our children making cookies, worms and brain-like things to present to our educators! YUMM! (We think).
Our Little Forest Folkers made a very special journey to our allotment, visiting our Chiswick Scarecrow and patch to breathe some new spring life into it. Our adventurers-turned-gardeners planted seeds for onions, shallots, courgettes, carrots and wildflowers! All things bright and beautiful to spruce up our allotment patch.
As we were planting, our children became fascinated by the Gardener’s bug hotel, critters and wiggly worms in the soil. This inspired a mini-beast hunt, using Hugless Douglas’ mini-beast checklist! Our adventures found the BIGGEST worm we have ever seen and had an up close look using bug hunt jars. The day evolved into building our own worm hotel in the forest. A construction of mud balls, pinecones and pine needles made our foundation. A very suitable home for our wiggly friends.
Our Chiswick team hopes you find a few moments to soak up the sun’s rays over the weekend. Happy resting!
Joke of the week: what vegetable is a pirates worst enemy?
