Our Week in the Forest...
The week in the forest has gone so fast, we can hardly believe it’s already the end of it! Time flies when you are having fun and we had lots of it in our forest. On Monday we visited the library to return the books we had borrowed the previous week. We used that as an opportunity to read more books, searching for exciting looking stories. It was a great adventure into our local area where we were able to practice how to safely cross the road and look out for any traffic.
The rest of the week we spent mostly in the forest, but this didn’t stop us from reading and exploring more about literacy and the wonderful world of letters. We read books about the treasure of Pirate Frank where we followed a journey of a little boy who was trying to find hidden gems following a map. The book inspired us to draw maps of our own and look around us to compare our surroundings to the ones in the book. Using our hands and eyes we pretended to have the telescopes that helped us scan the forest. We looked up to the tree-tops to find monkeys or animals that might want to steal the treasure from us. We also searched for hills that resembled the mountains from the book. It was great fun and we continued to talk about islands and far-away places.
To support our recognition of letters, Jaye has built a wonderful learning corner for us to explore the alphabet. She hung each letter on the ribbon and we had to work out which letters were missing from the alphabet. This was a very engaging and mind-exercising activity and some of us cracked it immediately.
We paid the same amount of attention to exercising our bodies as we did with challenging our brains. We went on numerous adventure walks and explored the gardens appreciating the magical installations. In the forest we have tested our skills by walking on tightropes, spiderwebs built from ropes and self-made see-saws. We also built our own obstacle course to test our agility.
With all the wonderful rain this week our campsite has provided a lot of space and material to jump in the puddles, slide on slippery ropes and of course make mud pies! We have been creating more magical potions using all the mud and resources we could find around us. We combined some feathers, various leaves, pine needles and sticks together into a wonderful recipe that we then shared with our friends.
We are ready to take on another busy week and cannot wait for some more fun in the forest!
