We couldn’t have asked for a better start of the new month! We were reunited with friends that we hadn’t seen due to the long holiday and returned to our indoor space where we started each day with a hearty breakfast. This gave us lots of energy to explore the forest! With so many new friends joining us in September we were able to see some new friendships emerge and some proudly shared with others all the secrets of the forest. We excitedly put on our new forest waterproofs and marched on to find out what was awaiting us in the woods.
At our campsite we’ve been working on creating an enormous den that we used for our stage to perform in front of our friends. It also acted as our shelter to hide in when the sky decided to open. With so many sticks and fallen branches scattered around it wasn’t long until we used it for our creative designs. We found a hollowed log that we turned into a cauldron and the creation of the magic potion began - we put in some leaves, magic beans, pasta, stones and water. With a lot of stirring and magical spells we turned it into a soup that we shared with our forest friends. Not only did we use our imagination, but we used our maths skills too! We had to measure, count and carefully separate the ingredients to make sure that each dish had all the right portions.
The gardeners have invited us again to the allotment where we assisted them in apple picking. A lot of the apples fell off the trees and slowly turned brown. We knew that it would be a waste to just leave them there so with the help of our friends we tidied up the orchard and picked all the apples and returned them to the compost bin. It will be a delicious and very welcomed treat for all the wriggly worms!
Our maths corner was very popular this week. We loved counting the beans and putting them with a corresponding number. We were so impressed with some of the counting skills! We then looked around the forest to find more materials that looked similar and could be counted too.
The return of the food has been much anticipated. We loved the fresh fruit in the morning followed by delicious cookies. Our favourite ‘pizza soup’ as we called it disappeared from the table in no time as we licked our lips and asked for more.
We cannot wait for another week in the forest and are looking forward to finding more treasures that the Autumn Queen has been putting out for us!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
