Our Week in the Forest...
After a long weekend of family fun and chocolate delights, our children hopped back into the forest with tales of egg hunts, roast dinners and treats left by the Easter bunny. Though it's been a short week, the children's play and exploration has been as diverse as ever.
With the forest meadow in full bloom we have been graced with the presence of a flight of beautifully coloured butterflies. The children spent some time watching how they fly through the air and move from flower to flower. We managed to catch one of the butterflies in a net which was the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at the patterns on their wings, before releasing it safely back into the forest.
The children have also enjoyed learning the story of George and the dragon in anticipation of St. George's day happening this coming weekend. The children were eager to trawl the grounds of Chiswick House on their own dragon hunt. They searched high and low, into the furthest corner of the dark woodland but didn't manage to home in on any dragons. They did however find a collection of dragon eggs that they carefully transported back to base camp. Some children decided to take their eggs home and incubate them in the hope of hatching their own pet dragons!
This week we celebrated Little Forest Folk Chiswick's 1st Birthday!
We've been open for one whole year, and oh what fun it's been! We're so delighted that your little one's have been part of the adventure.
Food in the forest:
Our full April menu can be found on our website HERE
Recipe for our Cheese and Chia seed biscuits so you can make them at home:
Ingredients:
- 180g wholemeal flour
- 100g unsalted butter
- 120g grated extra mature cheddar cheese
- 50g grated parmesan/grana padano cheese
- 2tbsp Chia seeds
- 2/3 tbsp cold water to bring the dough together
Method:
Preheat the oven to 170C fan/190C normal. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.
Weigh the flour into a bowl and add the butter, cut up into little pieces. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Add the grated cheese and chia seeds and mix it all together with a spoon. Add the water gradually until the mixture starts to form a dough. Work the dough until it feels like it is ready to roll out. You need to do this for a couple of minutes otherwise it will be too crumbly.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it is 5mm thick. Choose a cookie cutter you like and get cutting! The dough re-rolls really well so you can use up all the spare pieces.
Put the biscuits onto the baking sheet and bake for 15 mins or until golden brown.
Have wonderful weekend adventures!
