New year, new us
After a very short first week it was so lovely to be out and about and to see our wild explorers reunite again. It has been lovely to hear about our busy Christmas holidays and all the far faraway places we have visited during this break.
♻️ New year, new resolutions
Everyone in our Little Forest Folk family loves nature and since we are out and about all year long, we have been able to notice all the changes around us. For good or for bad, climate change is knocking on our door, and we all want to do something about it.
We have started our Eco committee meeting on a regular basis and our children have passionately taken part in each discussion. A central point this week was, “What is Biodiversity?”. We learnt about different animal kingdoms, various habitats and most importantly what our impact is. Our little explorers have been great in pointing out ideas of how to contribute to sustainability at our beloved camp as well as making small changes in our day to day lives that could have a great impact.
🍳 On the same note, we have been talking a lot about food waste and how we could reduce it. We came up with a wonderful idea in that we can create wonderful recipes for our Wild Friday Cooking including as many veggies as possible, so we ensure we use them all and not waste a perfectly good ingredient just because we have extra. This week we decided to make some lovely vegan black bean burritos, using all kinds of delicious veggies to make them to our individual likings.
🐿 Never-ending adventures
Full of energy, this week we ventured through the park, looking for more things to observe and learn from. We ran through the yew maze, watched the beautiful birds and animals living in our woods, and played one of our favourite games ‘walking in the forest’, where we get to turn into wolves, bears, owls and show our best interpretations. We also couldn’t miss paying a visit to Grandpa tree to make our New Year’s wishes and to give him a warm hug and fill our bodies with positive energy!
