Chiswick - Mud paintings

This week in the forest we have been making the most of the gorgeous sunshine by going on lots of adventure walks and have been busy collecting all the different types of coloured leaves. With these, we have explored how we can make different pictures on the forest floor, creating aeroplanes, houses and dinosaurs. As the week went on, we looked at lots of shapes we could make to create a beautiful rangoli pattern for Diwali using our leaves. Our Little Forest Folk-ers all got stuck in creating triangles and circles and then filling them with all the found forest treasures.

We even went rolling down a mud hill this week, which was so slippery and so much fun, getting all covered in the mud and then at the bottom we splashed in it to see how much we could cover our educators. We also collected some pots of mud to do some mud paintings back at the room, getting really messy as we mixed and explored the texture of it before exploring all the marks we could make with our hands and the paintbrushes! We have been creating a forest wall to reflect on our time in the forest, sticking leaves and sticks to it and sharing with us the favourite parts of their day.

We have also had a little robin visit us all week in camp which the children have been fascinated by. The children have named him Robin – a very fitting name. We've been talking about the birds and which ones we might see in the forest, comparing them to different pictures of British birds. The children have been eager birdwatchers trying to spot all the different species and have been looking to see if we can spot any nests up in the trees. The children have even been creating their own birds’ nests too and collected berries they have found for the birds and placed them in their nests to feed them.

The children have also been climbing our rickety rope ladder bridges, walking along them while holding on to the rope above testing the children's balance and coordination. We have also been swinging on lots of different swings this week and have been discovering how the different heights of them mean we can sometimes swing further, and we can even spin on them by twisting the swing round first!

We have had a lovely week and we cannot wait to see what next week brings. Have lovely weekends all!
