Jelly, bees and bears - oh my!
This week has seen our adventurers and educators shelter indoors due to the crazy effects of Storm Eunice. Our indoor room has provided us with some cosy comforts to help us adjust to the change. Like a sofa!
The children took full advantage of our indoor space, building pillow forts, having picnics, and making jellyboats. Chiswick’s Little Forest Folk-ers engaged all their senses as they touched, squished, smelled, and mixed the jelly cubes. They got their science on as they mixed the jelly cubes with hot water to see it dissolve before their very eyes. We were in awe as the smell of blackcurrant filled our nostrils and the water turned a glorious shade of purple.
The room was BURSTING with imagination, as our little adventures turned into parents and babies. The children put on nappies over their trousers and crawled around the room, telling their mummy or daddy when they needed a change!
We brought as much of the forest into our room, as humanly possible and even managed a bit of cheeky tool work. With the guidance of our lovely Playworker, Sam, we used palm drills and mini bow saws to chop branches of an elder tree to make ourselves some very attractive jewellery.
When we were able to get back to our beautiful forest, we jumped straight back into action!! One of planned activities this week involved little buzzing bees. Our adventurers became bumble bees using a teeny tiny bit of face paint and played a game of musical flowers to help pollinate the flowers of the forest.
Developing our maths skills has been a huge theme for our adventures this week. We used beanbags and chalk to practice small sums on a target and used food cards and kidney beans to divide food up among three hungry bears. There was no porridge involved sadly!
Joke of the week:
What is a bee’s favourite novel?
The Great Gats-bee!
See you next week everyone!
