Chiswick - hopscotch fun

This week the weather has started to get chillier and the children have been noticing what happens in our environment when it’s colder outside. We’ve been talking about seeing our breath on our walks pretending its dragon breath, how we have watched some of our Mummies and Daddies de-ice the car as the windows have been frozen and we even had some children see on their walk in a frozen puddle which they decided to pretend to ice skate on. We have also begun to notice the ground becoming crisper and the grass and leaves crunchier under our feet from the morning frost. As the weather is getting cooler now, we are needing our gloves and hats on in the forest, please can I ask that you practise with your child putting on their gloves as for some of them this is quite a new and tricky task.

On our way to and from the forest this week we have been concentrating on road safety. We have been talking lots as we cross the car park road about looking in every direction to check for cars, bikes and even dogs! The children can tell us when they spot something, when it is safe and even when they can cross all while following the front drivers and educator on the caterpillar.

In the forest we have had a busy week from pretending to be educators, practising our letters to swinging and climbing in the trees. The children have been trying out hopscotch to practise their jumping, hopping and numbers and we also practised writing our numbers and counting the matching numbers of acorns. The children have been climbing the rope ladder too and when they have become confident in this, they have tried climbing again without it being pegged into the ground, so it is all wobbly!

We have also become bird watchers as we searched for hidden pictures of birds in our bushes and trees at camp using the binoculars. We were looking for all the hidden birds and then pretended to be them running around flying and then hiding ourselves and having our friends find us.
