Half-term adventures
Is it really the last week of October?
Our forest seems so busy with all our holiday campers on site. It has been so heart-warming to see our Little Forest Folk-ers reunite with some of our old friends. It is so nice to see you all back with us and all the new ideas you have brought to the forest. 🌿
This past week we used every opportunity we had, to enjoy the last rays of warm sunshine before winter knocks on the door of our lovely forest. Covered with beautiful leaves of all colours, our favourite forest has turned into a golden paradise.
This week we ventured through the woods collecting leaves of all shapes and colours, so we can use them for our creative arts projects. One of our favourites was stained “glass” stencils. The children used clear punched pockets, PVA glue and leaves of their choice to create their personalised autumn patterns. We were so proud of our artwork that we hung it all around camp 🏕.
As we know one of our favourite things in the forest is our library filled with inspiring adventurous books. ‘The Scarecrow’s Wedding’ sparked a wonderful idea - to make our very own spooky scarecrow lady. We rolled our sleeves up and got busy practicing our knots and filling old clothes with straw to give life to scary Edna 🎃. We then loaded Edna on our brand-new wagon trolley and wheeled her to our vegetable allotment, where she found her new forever home.
We also read ‘Jack and the beanstalk’ and decided to conduct a little experiment. We heard about a new way of growing beans, by placing the seeds in between cotton pads and keeping it moist for a couple of weeks. So far, no beanstalks have reached the sky, but we have been so patient and hopefully next week we will be able to observe our first leaves reaching to the clouds.
This week we wanted to unleash our creativity to its full extent, as well as work on our literacy. With the support of our forest educators the children successfully put on paper their very own Spooky Halloween Stories. Later they added unique drawings to create the perfect helicopter story BOOk 👻. Stay tuned for the release of our first copy!
Our Little Forest Folk-ers have shown a great interest in using tools this past week. We have been learning how to safely use a bowsaw and our children have been enjoying sawing giant logs so we can make new seats for our fire circle 🪵. We all had to practice great teamwork and communication to find the perfect sawing rhythm.
Can’t wait to see what surprises November holds for us!
