Our Week in the Forest...
Festive crafts and wintery weather!
With winter well and truly here, the children and educators have been busy keeping active and warm! We have been quite nomadic with our days, doing light set ups so we can keep moving and exploring. The children therefore have been challenged to mainly use their natural surroundings as props for their play! There have been some great leaf activities of children arranging them into images on the floor, as well as using bendy sticks to transform the leaves into small parcels, folded carefully over and over again. When the sun has been out and it has been warm enough, we've been able to take our gloves off and be a bit more precise with our crafting with natural resources, exploring a variety of textures!
As well as being creative in the outdoors, we have also had lots of fun activities in the nursery room at the start and end of the day when not in the forest. The children have enjoyed creating Christmas tree decorations using lollipop sticks, glue and glitter. The children were encouraged to make a triangle shape as the base for their decorations and then given the choice to decorate them any way they wanted to. The activity gave lots of great mathematical learning opportunities as we counted how many sides and corners a triangle has. The children then had to count out the sticks and make their own triangle shapes. The room was soon filled with some lovely decorations which will slowly be making their way home once they have dried.
To break up the cold weather we have also been on a few outings, one to the library and one to Waterstones. Our trip to Waterstones was a great opportunity to talk to our children about money, especially about saving and spending. This week is actually Talk Money week and we therefore took the opportunity to discuss how we use money, by earning it and then saving it up before spending it on nice things that we perhaps would like. It formed a lovely discussion and being so close to Christmas quite a few children were suggesting what they would save and spend their money on!
We hope you too have had a lovely week and we hope you all have a lovely weekend!
