Chiswick - Every leaf speaks FUN to me

Every leaf speaks FUN to me

October has set up camp in our forest and has brought us a cosy autumn feeling with it’s warm shades of red, orange and yellow. But our forest is not only beautiful now, its also very spooky! Boo! 👻

🍁

Our Forest Folks have been so inspired by Halloween being just around the corner that we’ve used every opportunity we had to get into character. This week in the forest we’ve seen pirates, witches, zombies, ghosts and some new type of spaghetti monsters. This favourite holiday has brought all of us together and has helped us improve our team-work, sharing skills and care for each other. We have been painting each other’s faces, worked together to create costumes and decorations, showed off our spooky dance moves and used our wild imagination to make up entertaining child led games.

🍁

On Thursday our amazing educator Courtney helped our Little Forest Folk to make our own hungry-for-conkers creatures out of carton boxes. We drew one as a ghost and another as a monster, then we worked on our hand eye coordination and fine motor skills, while using scissors to cut out mouths for the creatures. After our super scary monsters were ready, we tried filling their tummy’s with conkers which we were throwing from a distance! We can’t risk getting too close when they're hungry.

🍁

Our Little Forest Folk-ers are always interested to learn about different cultures and history. This Monday we were absolutely amazed by the Mexican TOTEM LATMAT carved by the Indigenous Totonac artist Jun Tiburcio. We were able to see it right before it headed to Edinburgh for the Origins Festival in November.

🍁

During this week we also focused on working on our literacy and numeracy skills, through discovering the changing autumn forest. We ventured through the woods observing all the magnificent trees around us, learning their names and how to identify them by their leaves. We discussed the different shapes and sizes of the leaves and the difference between broadleaf and evergreen forests.

Have a wonderful weekend and see you all next week!
