Chiswick - Beautiful constructions

Our Week in the Forest...

This week we experienced a blend of various weather conditions and strong winds so we had to be creative in finding ways of still being active in our learning.

On Monday we passed the day in the forest with very few resources. This kept us creative and allowed us to come up with brilliant ideas on how to use what the forest naturally provides for us in our learning and playing. We found lots of branches that aided us in building dens and traps for our friends and teachers. Our lovely educator Victoria saved a lot of tree trunks from Christmas trees and brought them to the forest. We used them as tables, chairs, traps and see-saw constructions. We used them to test our coordination and balancing skills.

Chiswick House and Gardens has a lot of happening at the moment. They are currently putting beautiful constructions around the gardens which will be illuminated at night. We could not walk away before posing to take photos and admiring the lovely installations. They bring lots of colour to the gardens and made our adventure walks even more exciting and inspiring!

On Tuesday, when it was very windy we decided to spend that day in the library. Some of us joined a musical group that day and learned some new songs as well as some basic rhythms using drums and shakers. The rest of us had an opportunity to sit down and browse through hundreds of books and explore the library. We borrowed a few books that we are looking forward to reading in the next few weeks.

Being inspired by finding books in the library we headed off to the local Waterstones to find what new books are being sold. We also wanted to see if we could find any board games to help us with learning about turn-taking and in exercising our memory. We could not find any games that were interesting to us so we headed off to a local charity shop to see if we could find any there. This led us into the discussion about ‘new’ and ‘used’ and how we could re-use things that other people no longer want. Since we didn’t find any games in the charity shop either, we came up with a brilliant idea of making our own games which we will contunie to expand on in the next few weeks.

The remainder of the week we spent in our usual base camp and as the rain brought us a lot of puddles to jump in and lots of mud which meant we could create pies, potions, cakes and many, many more delicious creations that we shared with our friends and educators!

Have a wonderful and sunny weekend everyone. See you back on Monday for more adventures!
