Chiswick - autumnal fall of leaves

Our Week in the Forest...

As winter approaches, the children have still been enjoying the autumnal fall of leaves and the variety of rich colours that come with it. We have had a great mixture of earthy colours mixed with more vibrant flame like colours. These rich colours have been a strong basis for lots of creative ideas around colour and the children have been imaginative with what they thought the colours symbolised. Whether it’s a bright red evoking "hot" or "sun" for some children or yellow being a "warm" or "happy" colour to others, it was lovely to hear what the colours meant to each child. The leaves also formed the foundations for quite a few games this week, one of which was nest building! By piling up the leaves in big mounds the children made their own nests to play in. They then decided to make a humongous nest which fit in several children at once! We also used other resources as eggs for our nests.

With the drop in temperatures this week, we have been making sure to keep our children active and in the sun. We have therefore been setting up in the picnic area at Chiswick House which has a nice big field and is warmed by the sun for the majority of the day! This led to playing lots of games such as “What’s the time Mr Wolf”, “Grandma's footsteps” and, in general, playing imaginatively and running around! It has been lots of fun and kept all the educators on their toes, as many of the games resulted in them being chased.

This week we also decided that we hadn't been to the library for a while and thought it would be a nice break from the cold. We therefore took the children down the road to the local library to explore some new literature and we even got to borrow some books. We always have a great time visiting the library which gives the children the opportunity to explore new books, but also share books familiar to them, that they may have at home. We therefore let the children have a good explore and then came back together on the carpet reading all the exciting narratives the children had found!

We hope you all have had a lovely week too, and have a wonderful weekend!
