The combination of sun and rain this week has given us so many varieties of things we could do, we feel really spoiled! We feel very lucky being surrounded by such a wonderful nature that we can explore every day and can see it change. On many of our adventure walks we are able to smell the glorious scent of flowers, touch plants of various shapes and textures and later on use those as an inspiration for our creative explorations.
We certainly felt creative this week, with having so many beautiful objects around us it’s difficult not to! We used fallen leaves as a base for making prints. The children loved experimenting with mixing colours and ways in which they could press the leaves onto the paper. There are surely some emerging artists amongst the little ones!
Apart from using our artistic skills we’ve been very engaged in story-telling and reading. A lot of the children show a great interest in books and often try to ‘read’ the books themselves. Having various stories around have inspired some children to try and recognise letters that the educators have put out in the forest. On the pieces of cardboard we’ve written each capital letter and the children had a go at trying to find a letter that stands at the front of their name. Very soon we saw some children pick out their letter but also try to put a full name together. Some have tried to ‘copy’ the letter using sticks, which proved to be tricky with some curvy shapes!
The rain created a lot of lovely puddles that we’ve missed jumping in so on every occasion the children immediately run to have a go at splashing. We’ve missed having the mud, so this week we’ve returned with some lovely mad cakes and mud pies that were decorated with leaves and treasures found in the forest.
Our favourite physical activity continued to be rolling down the hill which some children just couldn’t get enough of. We had some usual tree climbing, swinging and spinning and den building that the children have become experts in!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
