Chiswick -  A Visit to the Duck Pond!

This week Mother Nature has thrown everything at us - wind, rain, snow, and even a smidgen of sun. But has it stopped us enjoying ourselves? No chance!

It’s been a slightly unusual week in the forest, in that we’ve spent a little more time indoors than we normally would. With bitingly cold wind for most of the week, we’ve enjoyed adventure walks around Chiswick House and Gardens while retreating back indoors when it became too much for little toes and fingers, or big toes and fingers in the case of our adults!

While out on our adventures we enjoyed walking to the pond and across the bridge, careful not to wake the sleeping troll. There were lots of questions about why the ducks didn’t get cold in the water and why geese like to stand on one leg. A quick Google revealed this is to reduce heat loss, although ideas of pirate ducks losing legs in battle were much more well received by the children!

We also found some giant fallen logs and these became boats that children tested their physical skills on, as they climbed up and across, before leaping into the crashing waves in the sea below.

Whenever we started to feel a little cold and needed some motivation to shake and wiggle we had music man Joe to thank for lots of fun songs. It wasn’t long before conga lines were formed or dance parties started, the children busting out all kinds of dance moves and the adults joining in too, although some of their dance moves were much more questionable!

While inside, children enjoyed the novelty of spending time in their socks rather than their wellies. Activities like making play dough, helping cut up their own snack, magic sand and lots more art activities were enjoyed in the comfort of the dry and warmth of our indoor space.

We don’t mind the novelty of being inside every so often but we very much hope to be back to the mud and the wild of Chiswick House and Gardens next week. Have a lovely weekend and wrap up warm!
