Our Week in the Forest...
This week in the forest the children have explored the wonderful world of Autumn leaves. We have explored colour, shape and size whilst engaging in all sorts of imaginative play.
Many children have used this fabulous resource to cook various meals in the kitchen. The different coloured leaves became different ingredients as they mixed them together. As the children scooped, poured and mixed different forest goodies together it was amazing to see the collaboration that has evolved. Delicious multi-coloured cakes and cookies were cooked with many working together to achieve a shared goal.
On our walks into the forest throwing the leaves has been an extremely popular activity. The children observed the way the leaves floated around in the wind as they fell all around them. Many talked about finding the biggest or best leaf they could. The children then worked together to load up the wagon until it was completely full of leaves of every colour.
At base camp the children made sweepers using long and short sticks tied together. They then set about clearing different areas of the forest by pushing the leaves along the ground. Some made mud roads which soon became race tracks. Others enjoyed making huge piles of leaves to jump on, but most of all the children loved burying Tom under the leaves. The children worked in unison to gather as many leaves as possible to pile up leaves over Tom until he could no longer be seen at all.
We are looking forward to seeing what the children will decide to do with this wonderful forest resource next week.
Have a lovely weekend!
