Wimbledon - Whittling and Diwali

Although the beginning of the week at Wimbledon was a little different to normal, with having to return to the Scout Hut due to wind and a very very stormy day ahead, this did not change our fun in the Wimbledon Forest.

This week has been all things Diwali! We spoke lots about this event as well as carried out a range of different activities. Cassie used face paint to recreate Henna designs on our hands and Pamela used lots of different natural resources as well as beans in a variety of different colours to enable us to create Rangoli patterns on a tuff tray. We used chalk to create an outline of these patterns before adding the colourful resources to build up the image.

Towards the end of the week, Carla used cardboard tubes and cardboard flames to enable the children to make our own candles. The children decorated the tubes to make their candles brightly coloured.

In another activity, Olivia supported us to whittle sticks to make a candle in a different style. We spoke through the safety rules before getting to work. Using a glove on our non working hand and holding the peeler in the other, we removed the bark from the willow to reveal the bright centre!
