Wimbledon Village - Very Hungry Caterpillar!

It has been glorious to share the forest with the much-awaited sunshine this week.

After a nice long weekend, we started our week off with a walk to Cannizaro Park to see all the flowers flourishing, streams rolling and we even captured our senses with fresh cut grass. Our little explorers found polished diamond stones, feathers and some fantastic sticks which of course became many different things instead of just sticks with the help of our little explorers’ vivid imaginations.

“In the light of the moon lay an egg on a leaf, and out of that egg, popped a very tiny, very hungry caterpillar.” We have so many caterpillars spinning down on their silky threads and into our camp, that we have been exploring and learning about them. We had a giant (and very hungry!) caterpillar in the forest along with some gorgeous multicoloured butterfly wings for some role play. We had some lantern eggs hanging for mark making as well as an arts and crafts activity which involved drawing around our hands to create butterfly wings which we then decorated beautifully.

Caterpillars love to munch holes in leaves, and inspired by this, our Little Forest Folk-ers became caterpillars as they used a hole punch to makes holes in a leaf and then showed great fine motor skills as they threaded some string through the holes.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone, and we’ll look forward to seeing you all next week
