Wimbledon Village - "Jingle Bell Sticks"

The key phrase around camp this week was ‘heavy work’, as we challenged our little friends to flex their muscles, test their stamina and whistle while they worked. Each day the children were met with different physical tasks such as climbing a very tricky spider web, or moving wood slices from one side of camp to the other. Sometimes they didn’t think they could do it, but by supporting each other, working together and finding the right tools they each achieved more than they ever thought they could! The shiny new wheelbarrow was one such handy tool in use this week and it was wonderful to see the children negotiating how to use it, taking turns and finding different roles during imaginative play.

We also continued with lots of festive crafts this week, again inspired by the natural world. We talked a lot about reindeer and tried to spot their tracks on the path (we hear they have been rehearsing for the big night…). On Wednesday we took their antlers as inspiration to make reindeer greetings cards and “jingle bell sticks” using antler shaped twigs. There was also a snowman-making factory, tree adornments and sparkly wood cookie decorating so we expect your homes will be extra festive and twinkly over the winter break!

We’ll miss all our little elves over the next couple of weeks, but we look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2025 and wish you all a wonderful, magical and rejuvenating break until then!
