Our Week in the Forest...
Brrr, it’s cold outside! All the more reason to build fires, drink hot drinks and keep our bodies moving on adventure walks.
This week in the forest we have had so much fun making an obstacle course. The children worked together with Sam to put together lots of logs, tyres, palettes and balancing beams. Once it was built, the children couldn’t wait to try it out and almost the whole group was lined up waiting patiently for their turn! Balancing across the log was challenging, some children asking for a hand to hold as they walked across, others wanted to do it all by themselves even if that meant becoming unbalanced and having to jump off. The persistence was inspiring! Back on they would hop and keep trying. The children who started out needing a hand to hold, worked their way up to walking across by themselves. We had such a nice time during this activity, we will continue to reconstruct it each day and modify it as skills develop.
Out from the resource box this week we took the tree cookies (small slices of wood) and by using chalk, we were able to write on the cookies. Together with Emma, the children wrote a number on each cookie, up to number 10. The children enjoyed counting along with Emma and pointing to each number as they did. Then Emma hid all the cookies in base camp and the children had to find them all! “What number did you find?” the children asked one another. Once we had found the 10 cookies, we worked together to put them back in order from 1 to 10. This experience was so much fun for the children, they were playing for hours!
Making caves and tepees to play in this week was also a fun activity. The children love to help with building different structures and using a mallet to knock in pegs. Once their structures were prepared, the children had endless fun in their imaginative play, collaborating together to make up beautiful stories and play experiences.
Thank you for another wonderful week of learning and friendship, see you all next week!
