Wimbledon - Open seas adventures

Our Week in the Forest...

Ahoy land lovers! It appears the children at Wimbledon have been inspired by the rushing waters of the skies and have set sail on an adventure to the open seas. Fighting against sharks they worked together to safely arrive at a far off land.

Our Pirate ship was built from pallets raised up off the ground with some fabric sheets which blew in the wind. This is all that was needed to spark the imagination of the children in the forest. Our Little Forest Folk-ers negotiated roles in play and the space on deck, developing their language and communication skills.

While some stayed on the ship others found that a zipline was a faster way to move from place to place. The children helped to create the zipline and watched as an adult tested it before they were invited to have their own experience. It was a firm favourite with children loving to experiment with speed. I wonder where it will lead to next week!

Adventure walks off site are a great way for the children to explore our beautiful surrounding woodland area. On one walk this week the children visited the frog pond, a space that changes with the weather and is always exciting. The children came across the pond covered in a green blanket of duckweed which moved as they used sticks to create splashes. The children watched the splashes with anticipation and let out excited screams and told each other what they saw.

With the rain falling down during lunch time on Wednesday we hung some tarps up which not only kept us dry but also acted as a great way to funnel the water into a waterfall. The children were quick to collect buckets to catch the water and were so excited to feel the rushing water go down through their hands. They were making a plan about what to use the water for, some suggestions were washing lips, having a shower, making soup and making a puddle. The joy of water!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week!
