This week we have welcomed the cold weather! We have the most beautiful site usually but the frost has added a whole new level to the wonder. The children have really enjoyed exploring the effects the temperature has on our site. Adventure walks have been highly popular just for this reason. We have explored different textures; the frozen soil has provided many opportunities of role play, being astronauts and flying to another planet being the most popular! The children are aware that the water is freezing yet the joy of finding ice in puddles is memorising. The first ice of the winter! Some children investigated what the ice would do when dropped in a safe area. A couple took it a little bit further and wondered what would happen if they jumped on it! SMASH! 💥 It has been truly wonderful to explore the first frost of the Winter.
Despite the cold, the children have not stopped their love of stories! They have enjoyed reading many fiction and non fiction books with our educators. The story reading has inspired some of their role play stories too. The children have worked on their construction sites cleaning their excavators, diggers and loaders. Their small world plays have led to discussions about cleaning, fixing the mechanical problems and more important, having a break with tea and cake. We are lucky there are many places where our hard workers can have a rest. One of them near the book corner! To be able to read the instructions to fix the mechanics the children have been practising their letter recognition. Luckily, we have amazing educators, alphabets and books to support independent and group learning.
