Our Week in the Forest...
What a super fun week we had spent with our half-term holiday campers. We were so excited to have some of the Little Forest Folk alumni back on site with us (my how they have grown!), and of course we were so happy to welcome some regular campers back and some new faces too!
It’s been a very wet week but that hasn’t stopped our fun and explorations. On Tuesday we had a big fire and we kept it burning all day for some extra warmth. We of course took the chance to cook some tasty food on the fire too. We started off with apple slices. We love cooking fruit on the fire, it tastes so yummy! The children said it tasted like they were eating apple pie, without the pastry. We decided that our next fruit on the fire experiment will be… bananas! Stay tuned for how that turns out! We toasted some bread on the fire too, and made delicious jam toast as a treat later in the day.
The holiday campers have been climbing trees, fallen trees and ropes all week this week. The younger children just adore having the older children around to admire how they do things and how brave and skilled they are. They encouraged our regular Little Forest Folk-ers with new ways to climb and new heights to achieve. Even next week when the campers aren’t here, they will have left some wonderful ideas and inspirations for the children.
Adventure walks were loads of fun this week. I think we may have visited every inch of the common! We found some perfectly fallen trees at the bottom of the common, and they made the most amazing climbing trees. We visited here every day this week so that we could practice our skills and ensure all of the children had the opportunity to play on it. One adventure walk led us to a stream and one child came up with the idea to build a dam. So together we collected mud and rocks and experimented with how we could divert the water in different directions. We worked together until the water was leading to the bigger stream! We were extremely muddy afterwards, but it felt like an amazing achievement.
Looking forward to another week of learning and discovering. See you then!
