Our Week in the Forest...
Hello families! Second week back for the year and it’s been a week of new adventures and challenges. As the forest calls out for some respite, we spent Tuesday and Wednesday back at the Scout Hut grounds. Setting up in the outdoor area, we had the new site looking amazing! We set up an obstacle/climbing course for the children which they were very excited to use. The children went round and round the course and they decided after some time they wanted to change it around. So, all together, we moved around the course and set up some new challenges. We had tyres to jump in, planks to balance around and crates to climb up. Almost all of the children were involved at one point and joint together like a train, yelling “choooo choooo” as they shuffled around.
This week one of our favourite activities was the slide we set up using a piece of tin roofing. The children poured some water down it to make it extra slippery and then slid down to the bottom. Some of the children were a little cautious to begin with but it take long for all the children to be waiting in line for a turn. As the rain came down, the landing at the bottom of the slide became rather muddy! This was half the fun though and the children had the time of their lives (I’m sure you could tell by their muddy waterproofs!)
Spike was kind enough to run some cooking sessions this week with the children. One day they made biscuits, the next they made flatbreads. The children had the option of adding as many or as little herbs and spices as they liked, encouraged to smell them before they decided. A lot of the children just wanted everything in theirs! Whilst some, carefully smelled and decided whether it was appealing to them before deciding whether to add it. Perhaps the outcome wasn’t the most delectable, but the process was a super fun explorative experience!
