Our Week in the Forest...
It’s been a chilly one this week, hasn’t it!? The cold, misty days have encouraged us to keep busy and active though and we’ve enjoyed a wonderful week of physical play, collaborative partnerships and imaginative productions.
Our ropes master made us a wonderful cob web this week and the children have loved practicing climbing and experimenting with different ways of moving across the web. Leaving the web installed all week, we’ve loved to observe the children’s progress and determination. Coming back to challenge themselves each day and see if they can try something new or achieve new goals has been a highlight of the week!
On Tuesday we kept warm by a toasty fire. The children love to sit and watch the fire grow and the methods used to keep it going. Once the children see the wood turn white, they know it’s time to start cooking! We toasted our bread rolls and the children each got to butter their own roll with marmalade. Such independence! Such excitement! Such warm tummies!
The forest has been over taken by pirates this week! The children have played together in collaborative groups and made pirate ships at every port of the forest. Sailing the seas, finding treasure, making treasure maps and spotting sharks has been ongoing all week. Their imaginations have run free and sticks, pipes, blankets, cushions and pallets have become so many wonderfully creative props. Group imaginative play is so inviting and before long, there are groups of up to 12 children playing all together, negotiating roles and deciding upon leadership. It’s a sight to behold! Arrrrg!
Adventure walks this week have also been exciting with lots of ice about in the forest. The pond froze over and the children as well as the educators enjoyed breaking the ice and experimenting with its temperature in their hands. We love getting out and about into the forest, the children have amazing memories for the trails we take and often know exactly where they are and how to return to our forest! Our little forest explorers are amazing!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and we will see you all next week!
