Wimbledon - Building ships

Our Week in the Forest...

Back in base camp this week and the children have been busy building ships, climbing trees, making rope courses and taking long adventure walks through our beautiful forest.

We have been keeping warm next to the fire and enjoying learning about the elements that make fire. With the help of the educators the children looked forward to carefully adding a stick to the fire and contributing to the warmth provided. Next to the fire this week we have had warm ribena! The children have certainly loved this, saying cheers to their friends and warming their tummies. On Thursday we made toast on the fire and the children spread it with jam. Yum!

The children have also been using wooden palettes to build a ship! The ship has been continuously used throughout the week with play getting more intricate and bigger as more children join in. Fishing, pirates, mechanics... lots of play has sparked from this ship and the children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Let’s see how long this play extends for!

Getting our forest skills on this week, we spent some time whittling and making Christmas trees. The children took autonomy in using potato peelers to shave away at their sticks, making them smooth and light coloured. Together we observed the changes in the sticks and decided they could be almost anything we chose in our play!

As it gets colder, don’t forget lots and lots of spares of everything in the children’s bags! Enjoy your weekend everyone!
