Wimbledon - Aeroplanes and Ice Adventures

Wimbledon has had an amazing week with the return of water and ice play. With it being a warm week, the children have been keeping cool in a variety of different ways.

We have filled up balloons with water and then frozen them which has been a fun and exciting way for the children to explore different materials. We used spades to crack the ice before placing them in the sunshine to experiment with how long it would take for them to melt. Our little adventurers have enjoyed discovering the amount of time it takes for the ice to melt by using timers. They have chosen an amount of time to explore “I think it will take 10 minutes to melt”. We even placed natural materials such as pinecones, leaves, sticks and stones in ice to then have the exciting task of extracting them out!

This week we have also jetted off to a number of different countries. We created our own plane tickets, set up the plane and off we went! When asking the pilot for the plane’s destination, they told us “We are going wherever people want to”! We then had the joy of choosing where we were going and decided for one destination that we would visit a beach in Corfu. We had onboard service which included a drink and ice cream as well as a browse of the catalogue before a very quick descent. When creating the tickets, the children decided on their own destination, seat and gate number as well as departure time. We had children travelling to South America, Disneyland, Corfu and Malta. We even created our own luggage tags as well!!

On our walk in and out of the forest, the children have noticed that some of the bushes have flowers growing. Everyone was very interested in what type of plant this was and the educators notified them that it was elderflower and this sparked an activity to make elderflower cordial! We carefully chose which flowers to cut down, added them to hot water before mixing in honey. We explored the textures and scents whilst making this, as well as taking it in turns to give it a big mix. We then allowed it to rest in the fridge overnight to infuse before filtering it and enjoying our delicious elderflower cordial!

We hope you all have lovely restful weekends and look forward to more adventures next week!🦊🐰☀️💦💧✈️🌍
