What a fantastic first week we’ve had in Twickenham! Our Parakeet friends have flown back into the forest from their holiday while the Foxes welcomed new friends who have recently joined us in the summer who are settling beautifully in our wonderful forest.
We started the week by getting to know the forest and reminding everyone how to respect ourselves, our friends, and our environment. The children took turns running towards rainbow ribbons, stopping, and coming back. We also had a wander around the forest, getting to know the plants and animals that share our space. We learned to be very careful with trying not to shake and break living plants and we’ve put up cards on plants that we know not to lick or pick the leaves and berries. Friends who have been in the forest before have been amazing in welcoming new friends by inviting them to play, making sure their high viz vests are on, and comforting them when they suddenly miss their mums and dads.
We’ve also been learning about an amazing animal: the bear! We put on our bear hats and made dens just like a mother bear would make for her cubs. We looked around the forest to see if we could find food that bears would like to eat. It turns out the children love blackberries as much as bears do! We also climbed trees and ran as fast as bears. To enrich our bear theme through literacy and maths, we had fun reading 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt'. We scooped porridge into different size bowls, and prepared a bear theme tea party where we had to share biscuits equally to our guests. We also went on our very own bear hunt. We braved the river, mud, tall wavy grass by balancing, hopping, and climbing over an obstacle course.
We enjoyed getting to know each other, and our special animal friend: the bear! Until next time!
