Twickenham - Little Forest Folk Studio!

We are continuing to feel the musical beat and after last week’s exploration of musical instruments, we are ready to use our amazing repertoire of words, experiment with rhythm, and put our imaginations to the test by making up our own lyrics to compose unique songs.

At the Little Forest Folk studio, we were inspired by the songs of the Beatles where we sat in our very own yellow submarine and let our creative juices flow by flexing our imagination through imaginative play. We wondered about the creatures of the deep and thought of rhyming words to use in our under the sea inspired song. We explored rhythm by singing the words to the Yellow Submarine.

In another jam session, we listened to the birds singing around us and felt very calm and relaxed. We thought we’d learn another song by the Beatles called Blackbird in honour of the lovely birds that serenade us every day with their melodic harmonies. We learned a little bit about the blackbird and discovered they have one of the finest singing voices in the bird kingdom. How magnificent!

We had a very hands-on morning where we made our very own musical instruments. We gathered up items for recycling and gifts from the forest and spent the morning sorting, cutting, folding, and cello-taping to make fantastic lively maracas, booming drums, and wispy sounding flutes.

One morning, we discover that the forest had been transformed into a rhyming wonderland. We had Old MacDonald’s farm in one area of the forest where we had fun mimicking the sounds different animals make (it’s not always easy to squawk!). In another area, we had the magical Wheels on the Bus travelling around the forest, which turned into a submarine, then a train, and a truck, and finally back into a bus. We also met Miss Polly who had a very sick dolly and we spent the morning turning a section of the forest into a hospital where we took very good care of our sick patient.

We love to sing, and it was so much fun exploring words to the beat and rhythm of our favourite tunes. We’ll be back next time with more stories of our adventures in the forest!
