Winter challenges!
This week the children have shown their resilient side as they explored the forest through our first winter days! Braving the colder weather and rain the children adventured out each day dressed to the hilts in cosy warm clothes. It was wonderful to see how well the children could take care of their own needs as they changed their own gloves, kept their hoods up in the rain and managed to go to the toilet independently even with all those layers on!
On our walks to the forest we were treated with one beautiful foggy morning with the children wide-eyed as they strained to see the trees just meters away. The sound had changed and the children were able to really tune in to the world around them. They noticed the sound of their footsteps, the tweeting birds, the scuttle of a mouse and the roar of aeroplanes overhead! Other mornings were spent going on wonderful adventures across the heath. Some went to the tunnel where they had lots of fun running down the hill and then playing with sound as they made noises in the tunnel. They noticed that there was an echo which they found very exciting.
Towards the end of the week we went on an exciting adventure across the Heath, exploring the natural growth which has occurred through the month, such as mushrooms of all different shapes and sizes. We discussed our ‘no picking, no licking’ rule and reminded our friends to just observe. We also went into the tunnel, racing together to see who could get there first and listening to our echoes when we got inside, using our ears to explore the way sound travels, bouncing across the walls.
The children also enjoyed getting creative this week, making special postcards for our mummies and daddies, with our summer travels circling in our minds. The children also made some dream catchers which they later put above their heads whilst sleeping during role play to try and catch their dreams! These later turned into tennis rackets and it was amazing to see how far the children could hit their leaf ball across the camp!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we cannot wait to see you next week for more autumn adventures!
