Sunshine, rain and a whole lot of fun! We have brought a few different resources out to the forest this week and the children have really engaged with them showing an amazing ability to concentrate, collaborate and create!
Showing their artistic side, our Little Forest Folk-ers had lots of fun creating beautiful paintings and shaping clay into little animals and models. They were careful to create tiny details using little twigs and leaves to help create realistic depictions of forest animals. Paintings were either super modern explorations of colour and shape, with some wonderful cubist work, family portraits or fireworks!
They also used their imagination to build with little wooden blocks using them to build towers, cities and cars. The children got lost in their own little worlds as they created their own mini versions of the world. Some of our youngest children showed an amazing ability to negotiate with each other and continue play ideas naturally.
The imagination in the older camp often led to some wild adventures! The children travelled together on board of a submarine, became fishermen and women, dinosaurs, a rock band, a pride of lions, super speedy cars, wild rats, Pokémon trainers, Linda cats and fish in the ocean to name just a few. It’s amazing to see the creativity the children use to immerse themselves in fantastical worlds.
This week also saw the return of the mud kitchen. Utilising the rainwater and glorious mud that forms in the forest on rainy days, our Little Forest Folk-ers cooked up a wonderful array of savoury and sweet dishes. They worked together in little groups to make potions, cakes, spaghetti and much more!
Climbing has also been popular in both groups seeing children getting more confident climbing on trees during little adventures and on the spiders webs on each camp. If someone is struggling other children can be seen stepping in to guide them up, showing them where to put their feet and hands to get to the top!
