Phenomenal Physical Play!
This week the children have been using some new resources that have been brought out to the forest in some wonderfully creative and challenging ways!
After some recent tree surgery, the rangers very kindly chopped us some new logs and the children were quick to put them to good use! They rolled them around the camp using them in their role-play areas, as seats and as extra high plinths for the obstacle courses! Thin planks were carefully placed between the logs as the children took charge of the design and difficulty. Confidence levels were sky high as the children walked up steep planks and across wobbly bridges.
The children have also enjoyed some wonderful giant wooden marbles this week. They were able to experiment with moving different card channels around to try and make their own marble runs. Some wanted them to go faster, others enjoyed making the longest runs and some enjoyed working out the angles for the most complicated runs! It was wonderful to see their problems solving skills coming alive as they collaborated on mini projects together.
The children have also been challenging themselves with smaller scale physical activities this week. They have been carefully adding details to their clay models using stick tools, leaves and little stones to decorate. There was also a wonderful collaborative art project where the children carefully collected delicate leaves sorting them by their different colours and then regrouping to make a giant concentric circle of leaves in different colours. Once made the children started to create their own dancing game around the edge of the outer circle.
It is so wonderful to see the children's creativity and independence when they think up their own games, role-play ideas, problem solving games and balancing areas. We are all looking forward to seeing what new ideas the children will come up with next week.
