This week in the forest the children have shown fantastic creativity and an ability to make, build and create on a large scale and also a micro scale!
We have brought out lots of junk modelling materials that the children have been using to make a vast array of different models, from hand hammers and omnitrix to caterpillars and self-portrait sculptures!
We also brought the clay out to the forest this week and the children had a wonderful time shaping the clay into different shapes - spiders, snails, slugs, snakes and hedgehogs. The children used natural materials to add texture to their creations too! The children spent hours on their models adjusting and adapting their creations until they were happy with them!
We have also had some large scale projects with children using logs and planks to build a car and a truck. They discussed the different parts: the chassis, wheels, axle, wipers, body, windows, seat and rocket booster!
Fine motor skills were also being tested as the children used doubled sided sticky strips. They carefully peeled a layer back so that they could then pick apart little leaves of different colours and stick them down.
Our forest hammock has been the centre of lots of role-play this week! The children have pretended to be babies and have spent literally all day playing together in their own imaginative worlds! The communication between the children throughout these wonderful stories is amazing!
Whilst playing in the hammock one day we noticed some of the children’s hair was standing on end. We talked about how static charges are created through friction of certain materials and that this can then affect hair!
We all had such a great week and we can’t wait to see everyone back again next week!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
